Promotional Video for Gulf Seafood Trace Program
I recently had the pleasure of working on a unique promotional video for the Gulf Seafood Trace program. Sponsored by theĀ Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission, the program’s goal is to “help drive higher market demand for U.S. Gulf of Mexico seafood by telling its unique story and ensuring confidence in the retail and consumer markets.” The video debuted recently at the 2012 International Boston Seafood Show.
From a consumer’s viewpoint, one of the more interesting aspects of the program highlighted in the promotional video is the ability to scan Gulf seafood package QR codes with your phone while shopping. The consumer is then linked immediately to information that has been shared along the supply chain, such as date of harvest, species and distribution maps, along with value added point-of-purchase promotions, etc. For more information about the program, visit the Gulf Seafood Trace web site.
Your Seafood Has A Story was produced by Fire On the Bayou, who brought me in as Director/Cameraman. We shot over a two week period along the Gulf coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, focusing on the harvesting, processing and distribution of the premium local catches.
Early on in the creative process we opted to shoot our interviews first, with the intention of scripting around them after a rough edit. As it turned out, the story unfolded quite nicely without any additional narrative. I’ve found this technique often works quite well when those interviewed are knowledgeable and passionate about the topic. This was one promotional video that I could definitely sink my teeth into!
