On Nov. 7, 2009, the USS New York (LPD 21) was formally commissioned and came to life as the Navy’s newest warship. I had the opportunity to document the ship's construction and produce a short film about four shipbuilders who traveled to New York City and met with survivors and family members of victims of 9/11. Built by Northrop Grumman in New Orleans, the amphibious transport ship contains 7.5 tons of steel from the World Trade Center molded into her bow.
